Biography

Boston-based bass and drum duo BEDTIMEMAGIC delivers a caustic style of noise rock-influenced grime-pop thunder. Nicholas Pentabona (bass and vocals) and Morgan Berns (drums, vocals, and pedal organ) take elements of some of the prime Sub Pop and Amphetamine Reptile acts, boil them down into a high-volume/low-end greasebomb, and fire into the listener’s face through a bazooka. The duo’s grooves explode on their latest full-length Pillow Talk, having sanctioned the talents of Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Daughters, Unsane) to produce and mix the album and adequately corral their booming riffage, after which the tracks were mastered by Carl Saff (Child Bite, Fu Manchu, Fifteen). BEDTIMEMAGIC’s Pillow Talk LP will see release on vinyl and all digital platforms through Nefarious Industries on November 8th.

Full Album Stream: BEDTIMEMAGIC “Pillow Talk” – Decibel Magazine

BEDTIMEMAGIC really doubled down on the misnomers with debut studio LP Pillow Talk. Perhaps the only hint that their music doesn’t have much in common with love-making is the fact that their moniker is in all caps. It’s hard to imagine someone getting down and dirty to the anxiety-provoking noise rock on the ten-song album. […] BEDTIMEMAGIC shout and strum akin to the best of Amp Rep and Sub Pop.” – Decibel Magazine

BEDTIMEMAGIC: Decibel Magazine Streams Andrew Schneider-Produced Pillow Talk LP By Boston Noise Rock Duo; Album Sees Release Via Nefarious Industries This Friday – Earsplit Compound

BEDTIMEMAGIC

Decibel Magazine is streaming volatile duo BEDTIMEMAGIC’s raging new LP, Pillow Talk, ahead of its release through Nefarious Industries this Friday. The Boston-based bass and drums gruesome twosome delivers thundering noise rock-influenced grime-pop thunder reminiscent of the gnarlier acts of the Sub Pop and Amphetamine Reptile rosters.

With Nicholas Pentabona on bass and vocals, and Morgan Berns on drums, vocals, and pedal organ, BEDTIMEMAGIC’s grooves explode on Pillow Talk, having sanctioned the talents of Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Daughters, Unsane) to produce and mix the album and adequately corral their tonal obliteration, after which the tracks were mastered by Carl Saff (Child Bite, Fu Manchu, Fifteen).

When asked for comment on the new LP, Pentabona rambles, “I’m of the opinion that ghosts would be naked. Clothes don’t have a spirit, right? You don’t see textiles alone haunting people, only on the bodies of ghosts. That’s BS, unless there are clothing stores or, like, clothing bins in the afterlife… And then why is everything so tattered?”

Decibel writes with their advance stream of the record, “It’s been well-established that duos can make a lot of noise. Hell, label Nefarious Industries is a bit of a hotbed for them. Cinema Cinema, A Fucking Whale, Fuck Your Birthday, and Bangladeafy all share a home with BEDTIMEMAGIC. However, only the latter shares the drum and bass set-up, though, which is appropriately noisy. Making things apter is the fact that the noise is, well, noise rock. To continue with the duo bit, BEDTIMEMAGIC shout and strum akin to the best of Amp Rep and Sub Pop.”

Pillow Talk will see release on LP and all digital platforms through Nefarious Industries this Friday, November 8th. Find preorders at the label webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

BEDTIMEMAGIC Bring The Noise On Audaciously Awesome Pillow Talk – Rock and Roll Fables

“Like a mix of Unsane and old school Amphetamine Reptile artists with a smidge of Converge thrown in for good measure, Pillow Talk is a cohesive, albeit cacophonous, heaping of modern loud that you need to have in your life. The duo of Morgan Berns and Nicholas Pentabona have pared down years of releases and songs to ten piledriving tracks that punctuate the BEDTIMEMAGIC sound perfectly.” – Rock and Roll Fables

BEDTIMEMAGIC releasing ‘Pillow Talk’ (stream “Snore Snore Snorer”) – BrooklynVegan

“Boston’s BEDTIMEMAGIC are a sludgy post-hardcore two-piece with Nicholas Pentabona on bass and vocals, and Morgan Berns on drums, vocals, and pedal organ, though you might not realize it’s only two people from listening to them. Nicholas makes his distorted bass sound like a bass and a guitar all at once, and the two of them have a sound that’s louder than some five-piece bands.” – BrooklynVegan

Boston-based bass and drums duo BEDTIME MAGIC will issue their raging Andrew Schneider-produced Pillow Talk LP through Nefarious Industries in early November. As the album nears its official release, the new single “Snore Snore Snorer” has been posted through an exclusive BrooklynVegan-hosted premiere.

With Nicholas Pentabona on bass and vocals, and Morgan Berns handling drums, vocals, and pedal organ, BEDTIMEMAGIC delivers a caustic style of noise rock-influenced grime-pop thunder reminiscent of the gnarlier acts of the Sub Pop and Amphetamine Reptile rosters. The duo’s grooves explode on Pillow Talk, having sanctioned the talents of Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Daughters, Unsane) to produce and mix the album and adequately corral their booming riffage, after which the tracks were mastered by Carl Saff (Child Bite, Fu Manchu, Fifteen).

Offers the band, “’Snore Snore Snorer’ poses the questions, ‘What does it matter when you’re awful? What does it matter when you can’t shut the fuck up?’ There are lots of ways to feel good about yourself and your life; we hope people can find a way to do that without shitting on other people.”

Writes BrooklynVegan with the premiere, “you might not realize it’s only two people from listening to them. Nicholas makes his distorted bass sound like a bass and a guitar all at once, and the two of them have a sound that’s louder than some five-piece bands.”

BEDTIMEMAGIC: New Noise Debuts “Long Kiss Goodnight” Lyric Video; Andrew Schneider-Produced Pillow Talk LP By Boston Bass And Drum Duo Nears Nefarious Industries Release – Earsplit Compound

New Noise Magazine is hosting the debut of “Long Kiss Goodnight” from Boston-based bass and drum duo BEDTIME MAGIC. Delivered in the form of a lyric video, the track is the lead single from the band’s Andrew Schneider-produced Pillow Talk LP, confirmed for November 8th release through Nefarious Industries. Preorders and the rest of the album’s details are also now unveiled.

BEDTIMEMAGIC– with Nicholas Pentabona on bass and vocals, and Morgan Berns handling drums, vocals, and pedal organ – delivers a caustic style of noise rock-influenced grime-pop thunder, like elements of some of the Sub Pop and Amphetamine Reptile prime acts were boiled down into a high-volume/low-end greasebomb and fired into the listener’s face through a bazooka.

The duo’s grooves explode on the Pillow Talk LP, having sanctioned the talents of Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Daughters, Unsane) to produce and mix the album and adequately corral their booming riffage, after which the tracks were mastered by Carl Saff (Child Bite, Fu Manchu, Fifteen).

Nicholas Pentabona offers, “Of all the songs on this LP, ‘Long Kiss Goodnight’ is the most difficult to discuss. ‘Warm Milk’ is about my struggles with body image and food. We wrote ‘Snore Snore Snorer’ after hearing some asshole prattle on about how great their life was going… clearly full of shit.”

“But songs are about whatever you want them to be about. They’re written with a specific concept in mind, true, but who am I to say that whatever a person hears in the final product isn’t equally as valid? Besides, we always get the meaning of things wrong anyway. People think ‘Ace of Spades’ has some deeper message but it’s just about how Lemmy likes to play video poker on those machines at bars. Likewise ‘Closing Time’ was about the birth of Dan Wilson’s son. Who the fuck knows?”

Pillow Talk, keeping with BEDTIMEMAGIC craft, is a quadruple entendre. There’s the classic definition: things spoken intimately to another person behind closed doors, in private, in bed. There’s a common usage: things we say that we don’t necessarily mean in order to bolster another person or convince them to go along with something. There’s a third meaning: Talking about sleep and sleepin’ equipment, rituals. Duh. And a fourth, which is using conversation, language, and dialogue as a cushion. A cushion for what, though? To comfort? To soften? Or to create distance between each other? Or none of the above?”

The duo is currently wrapping-up the final specs on their impending Andrew Schneider-producedPillow Talk LP, creeping towards release in the coming months via Nefarious Industries. A brief teaser for the gnarly LP has been issued alongside an updated tour listing.

The BEDTIMEMAGIC duo – with Nicholas Pentabona on bass and vocals, and Morgan Berns handling drums, vocals, and pedal organ – delivers a caustic style of noise rock-influenced grime-pop thunder, like elements of some of the Sub Pop and Amphetamine Reptile prime acts were boiled down into a high-volume/low-end greasebomb and fired into the listener’s face through a bazooka. Their booming grooves explode on their upcoming Pillow Talk LP, having sanctioned the talents of Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Daughters, Unsane), to produce the album and adequately corral their booming riffage.

While the release date and final details are being sorted, view a brief trailer for BEDTIMEMAGIC’s Pillow Talk LP at THIS LOCATION.

All details on Pillow Talk will be finalized and announced in the days ahead with audio samples, preorders, and additional assets.

In the meantime, BEDTIMEMAGIC can be witnessed raiding venues and taco trucks across the Northeastern realms of the country this weekend. The Extreme Noise Terrier mini-tour begins this Friday, August 23rd at the CT PunkFest in Wallingford, jams in Egg Harbor City on Saturday night, and closes out the beefy little run with an ask-a-punk type of joint near Allentown, Pennsylvania on Sunday. The band has also added new shows for the following weeks including a home-state show in Lowell with Meatwound and Thunderclap on September 14th, a Halloween weekend gig performing works by Pat Benetar, a November gig with GayC/DC, and more. Plenty of other weekend warrior road action is to be expected over the months ahead.

They’re self-described “trash rock”. They perform so loudly that you’ll second guess your current life insurance policy. Their aesthetic depicts monochromatic, broken, distorted, half-man half-canine outsiders wearing glasses. But don’t let those dog singlets fool you: lyrically and musically, BEDTIMEMAGIC is a serious band. The two have been a unit since 2014. Both were drawn together over their love of weird time signatures, edited pop-tendencies, funk, and of course, dogs. Typically, Pentabona is free with his speech and candor, while Berns is more reserved and thoughtful to his tongue. Both enjoy food immensely.

Their sound is majestic, caustic, plagued with feedback, lush chords, and conflicting rhythms. Sonically, they herald the early experimental days of ‘90s and ‘00s punk, angular hardcore, and noise rock. Visually, however, they’re two dads in their forties wearing pug wrestling onesies, playing a larger-than-life drum kit, a foot-pedal organ straight out of Black Sabbath or Rush, and a Rickenbacker 4003 bass that’s heavily modified, pumped through a wide range of toxic, custom amplification.

The whole concept ultimately doesn’t make sense on paper. Yet live and on recordings, it works. Nicholas Pentabona stands six foot tall, ostensibly rotund. He barks hot breath into a black honeycomb microphone whilst whirling around more than a man of his definition rationally would. The guitar flips behind his head, over his lap, off his shoulder and into the air. Feet tap dance along a thick effects board revealing nothing more than a line of cables drawing more and thicker distortion. Low end frequencies jostle the listener’s precious teeth around, clearing even the most impacted sinuses.

BEDTIMEMAGIC: Nefarious Industries Welcomes Boston Bass And Drums Duo; New Album To See Summer Release – Earsplit Compound

Nefarious Industries expands its peculiar family of musical entities with the acquisition of Boston-based bass and drums rock duo, BEDTIMEMAGIC. The outfit is putting the final touches on their impending new Andrew Schneider-produced Pillow Talk full-length release, which will drop this summer.

Ahead of the disbursement of Pillow Talk’s details, BEDTIMEMAGIC is already posting tour dates for the coming months in support of the record, including several New England dates in July, the Extreme Noise Terrier mini tour in August, and more.

They’re self-described “trash rock”. They perform so loudly that you’ll second guess your current life insurance policy. Feet tap dance along a thick effects board revealing nothing more than a line of cables drawing more and thicker distortion. Low end frequencies jostle the listener’s precious teeth around, clearing even the most impacted sinuses.

“People are paying to see a show,” he says. “Your job is to give them one.” His past is rife with dozens of former acts: The Taste Of Silver, HYEO, Crippling Fear, Fuck Everyone — to name a few. He reckons he’s been doing this music stuff for the better part of nearly three decades. Behind a handmade wall of percussion is Morgan Berns. Slightly taller, bespectacled, shorter in hair and slenderer in build, he broadcasts a mosaic of tattoos. His swings and crashes of the drumsticks are powerful and determined. He craves the desperate chaos of the upcoming beat but forces himself to hold back to stay in tempo. His arms cascade through the air like furious battalions. Berns has modeled himself a peculiar beast of burden; he not only sings while playing drums but also plays a single-octave organ with his left foot. The organ compliments the bass and allows for Pentabona to free from constantly playing the melody. He has earned his stripes with bands such as Coleman, Blacktail, LIVVER, and Bury The Needle, toting musicality through the best years of his life.

“We have a lot of things that we want to inevitably say,” notes Berns, “I think, maybe part of what we talk about is that you can’t take things, yourself, too seriously. I’m impressed when people can see the humor in how we’re presenting a stronger concept. So maybe that’s the message: Go fuck yourselves.”
