The new MAC GOLLEHON & THE HISPANIC MECHANICS LP Bite of the Street is an explosive, dance-friendly, groove-saturated party album that slams both feet to the gas pedal from its opening notes and never lets up. Fusing heavy soul and jazz with Latin dance grooves, synth-drenched dirges, a multi-percussionist assault, and more energy than a supernova, the six movements showcase GOLLEHON’s searing brass attack, with stacks of layered and intertwined trumpet igniting every moment of the album.
Bite of the Street was engineered by Adan Perez (Ruben Blades, Tito Nieves) and Dan Grigsby (Whitney Houston, Kool & The Gang) and mixed and mastered by Bruce A. Miller (Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Mary J Blige). GOLLEHON is joined by Eric Klaastad on bass, Jeanne Carno on drums, and Ismael Sanchez performing additional percussion. Engineer Adan Perez supplies additional keyboards on “Coming At You,” Ariel Lawler supplies background vocals on “Sleepwalker,” and David Brenner provides sound effects on “Souled Out.” The record is completed with photography by Tyler Adams, and layout/design by David Brenner and Greg Meisenberg.
MAC GOLLEHON has toured the planet and has played on thousands of records, including over two-hundred gold and platinum albums since the 1970s and a decade-plus run with Duran Duran. He is known for his mainstream contributions on chart-topping albums including Onyx’s Slam, Blondie’s The Hunter, David Bowie’s Let’s Dance, Billy Ocean’s “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car,” as well as records from Madonna, Hall & Oates, Chaka Khan, Buddy Rich, Al Jarreau, Sheena Easton, Nile Rodgers, Patrick Adams, Mick Jagger, Grace Jones, Hector Lavoe, and hundreds of others.
"...a wild ride through a wide scope of sounds that encompasses Latin jazz, progressive rock, electronic beats, more textured and cinematic noir sounds and more. Each track feels like an opportunity to explore new spaces, but all within GOLLEHON’s curious and evolving sonic world." - Treble
"...a vivid and creative burst of sounds that is both danceable and an artistic wonder. MAC GOLLEHON & The Hispanic Mechanics give listeners a variety of sounds to taste on Bite of the Street. […] The recording provides a satisfying and surprising listening experience." - LemonWire
"Bite of the Street boldly challenges traditional genre boundaries, asserting itself as a seminal work in the evolution of modern world fusion. It symbolizes GOLLEHON’s innovative spirit and influence on the future direction of music, inviting the audience to explore new and exciting musical territories. […] The album’s arrangements are sophisticated, with GOLLEHON’s trumpet threading through each track, providing a consistent musical anchor. The blend of traditional and electronic instruments creates a modern and timeless sound." - Staccatofy
"...a blend of infectious Latin grooves, which meet the intricate layers of jazz and the bold strokes of progressive rock, all carried forward by undercurrents of electronic ambiance. This melding of genres isn’t just a mix; it’s an earnest dialogue between the traditional and the contemporary, representing world music as a living, breathing entity." - Sound In Review
"With a bright and sharp tone, trumpeter MAC GOLLEHON puts out an album that is kind of what Miles Davis might have released during his Jack Johnson period if he were Latino." - Jazz Weekly
"As fascinating as it is unclassifiable, the new album by MAC GOLLEHON takes you into an urban, Hispanic world at the crossroads of jazz, soul music, and electro. It’s a style of music we are not used to listening to, yet it is particularly interesting. […] The tireless Miles Davis once declared that jazz inspirations should now come from the streets and their influences. This is precisely the angle from which MAC GOLLEHON’s album should be approached." - Paris Move
"Bite of the Street is a significant contribution to the ever-evolving genre of world fusion, pushing beyond traditional boundaries to encompass a wider world of musical influences. GOLLEHON’s ability to incorporate Latin rhythms, Afro-Caribbean beats, and electronic soundscapes into his jazz-based compositions places this album at the forefront of modern world fusion, a genre in constant flux." - Chalked Up Reviews
