Biography

Akron, Ohio-formed MAID MYRIAD has completed their debut full-length studio recording, which is now being finalized for an early Fall 2014 release via Nefarious Industries.

Boasting a beautiful but potent style of post-progressive/alternative/pop they like to refer to as kaleidoscope rock, MAID MYRIAD blends dynamically versatile songs, angst-fueled progressive riffs, delicate pin drop moments, and intense start/stop dynamics. The band formed in 2007, quickly solidifying their name within the local scene, receiving heavy regional airplay from their debut EP Embrace, being named Akron’s second best local band in 2010 (behind The Black Keys), logging miles in the van, and opening for such national acts as Primus, Gogol Bordello, Dax Riggs, Michale Graves, Maps & Atlases, As Tall As Lions and more.

Guitarist, singer, and songwriter, Jeff Klemm (ex-Via Lotus), and drummer Greg Meisenberg (A Fucking Elephant), have recently wrapped-up recording MAID MYRIAD’s first full-length album, With Haste On Its Breath. With a dozen new songs radiating with the band’s most exceptionally-crafted songwriting through their most expansive and explosive material to date, With Haste On Its Breath is an hour-long opus that is as beautiful as it is infectious. Bursting with influences from a gamut of rock subgenres, one can hear elements of Sense Field, Serpico, Sunny Day Real Estate and others born of the 1990s post-hardcore/emo circuit, massive alternative rock elements of Dredg, later Cave In and the mellowest aspects of the Dillinger Escape Plan’s more recent recordings, relentless creativity on the level of Tool and Mike Patton’s catalog and so on, all seamlessly honed and brought to vibrant life with a passionate, dynamic, clean vocal delivery. Recorded in both Akron, Ohio, and Keyport, New Jersey, produced and engineered by Klemm at Free Truman Productions, and then mixed and mastered by Kevin Antreassian at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Adrenaline Mob, Foxy Shazam, etc.), the album’s artwork and layout was crafted by Eric Nyffeler at Doe-Eyed (East Of The Wall, A Fucking Elephant).

While MAID MYRIAD has been comprised of Jeff Klemm and Greg Meisenberg, the duo is now joined by bassist Mario Tonathy, whom the band toured with heavily throughout 2013. With Tonathy now a full-time member of the band, MAID MYRIAD will take back to the streets, promoting the new album across the US throughout the latter half of 2014 and beyond.

With Haste On Its Breath will see a six-panel digipak CD and digital release October 7th via Nefarious Industries, the independent label founded by members of MAID MYRIAD, A Fucking Elephant, El Drugstore and more, and the home of a bunch of big, dumb noise.

GHOST SIMPSON: Self-Titled EP Review – Sonic Abuse

Ghost Simpson is an exploratory EP that introduces the band that is its namesake perfectly. There are reference points here from the progressive synth experiments of acts like Banco De Gaia and System 7 to the ambient dub of The Orb (themselves explorers of the space originally occupied by the likes of Pink Floyd and Yes). […] It’s a dark, brooding, gothic atmosphere the duo conjure, the music rooted in the post-punk experimentation of the early eighties […] a woozy style that recalls a dark underground nightclub where the blues-loving patrons have all been doped with ketamine and left drooling for a night of psychedelic noise and half-observed flashes of distorted reality. […] In this age of endless derivation, GHOST SIMPSON have tapped into something truly different.” – Sonic Abuse

Exclusive: Stream GHOST SIMPSON’s “The Silver Arrow” – American Aftermath

“New York-based moody synth duo Ghost Simpson are set to release their debut self-titled EP on December 1 via Nefarious Industries. Lee and Melissa Chernowetz, with the aid of drummer Greg Meisenberg (Maid Myriad, A Fucking Elephant), craft ethereal and Gothic soundscapes on this semi-conceptual release in which each song tells a supernatural tale. We at American Aftermath are stoked to bring you the opening cut from the EP, “The Silver Arrow”. Pulsating electronics and ghostly synths make up the bulk of this tune spearheaded by Melissa Chernowetz’s crooning.” – American Aftermath

“NYC duo Ghost Simpson‘s impressive debut EP is a highly gothic affair; haunted electronic soundscapes swirl above the beguiling vocals of Melissa Chernowetz. Her seductive narratives of terror and the unknown at once create ethereal pleasure then unease.” – Pseu Braun, WFMU, NJ

One of the most vibrant progressive rock/post-hardcore albums of last year, the hour-long With Haste On Its Breath was recorded in Akron, Ohio and Keyport, New Jersey, produced and engineered by guitarist Jeff Klemm at Free Truman Productions, and mixed and mastered by Kevin Antreassian at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Adrenaline Mob, Foxy Shazam, etc.). As the record infected the masses, Ohio.com added MAID MYRIAD to their best of 2014 lists, and MetalSucks issued of With Haste On Its Breath, “its massive, melodic, introspective, and tortured, like a wonderful dream that quickly metamorphasizes into the kind of nightmare that continues to rattle and haunt you even after you awaken, stuck to your psyche like gum to the bottom of a shoe…” The Akron Beacon Journal hailed, “MAID MYRIAD, which calls its music ‘kaleidoscope rock’ thankfully digs deeper and further back into the ’90s recalling the intricate, herky-jerky dynamics and start-stop riffs of bands such as Sunny Day Real Estate and At the Drive-In and heavier contemporary proggy bands such as Tool and The Mars Volta, minus the 10-minute songs.” American Aftermath boasts, “The band combines an array of influences, including progressive rock and 90’s post-hardcore/emo, into a dynamic and emotional display of alternative rock mastery… Jeff Klemm’s near angelic vocals are sure to be stuck in your head all day. In fact, we guarantee that.” The Cleveland Scene made MAID MYRIAD their Band Of The Week, stating, “…the songs stay true to ‘kaleidoscope rock,’ the term the band has used to describe its neo-progressive rock. Heavily textured songs such as ‘Camera Eye’ and ‘Dance by the Moonlight’ have elements of Mars Volta. But the group slows things down for the simmering ‘Be Careful What You Wish For’ and ‘Waiting for December,’ showing it can capably change gears.”

MAID MYRIAD: With Haste On Its Breath – Team Rock

With Haste On Its Breath twirls through progressive rock and post-hardcore with a refreshing sense of otherness. There are obvious influences at play – the darker, quieter corners of Deftones’ work, Cave In’s later, more melodic days, a smattering of Tool’s art-metal rhythms, a touch of Mars Volta when frontman Jeff Klemm lets rip with the falsetto, and the grit and raw emotion of mid-90s post-hardcore personified by the likes of Jawbox and Sunny Day Real Estate. But in pooling all of these influences together, [MAID MYRIAD] created an album that exists purely in its own little world, and quite lovely it is, too.” – Team Rock

MAID MYRIAD: MetalSucks Releases New Single From With Haste On Its Breath; Debut Album From Ohio Kaleidoscope Rock Act Nears October Release – Earsplit Compound

Maid Myriad

Akron, Ohio-based kaleidoscope rock act, MAID MYRIAD, will release their mesmerizing debut full-length, With Haste On Its Breath, in less than two weeks, and today, the crew who runs MetalSucks’ online domain has premiered the album’s third track, “Be Careful What You Wish For.”

Slowly uncoiling, building from a gentle, theatrical intro into an explosive modern rock masterpiece by the end, “Be Careful What You Wish For” is just an example of MAID MYRIAD’s awesome dexterity displayed on the moving twelve-song With Haste On Its Breath. The trio fuses an endless array of genres into a unique, hook-strewn rock amalgam of their own, and on the album, creates an hour-long opus that is as beautiful as it is contagious. Alongside their exclusive stream of “Be Careful What You Wish For,” MetalSucks states the track, “might be described as ‘Coheed-esque’ — it’s massive, melodic, introspective, and tortured, like a wonderful dream that quickly metamorphasizes into the kind of nightmare that continues to rattle and haunt you even after you awaken, stuck to your psyche like gum to the bottom of a shoe. Little wonder we became so smitten with the song from the moment we heard it!”

MAID MYRIAD to Debut Full-Length Album “With Haste on Its Breath” – Akron Beacon Journal

MAID MYRIAD […] digs deeper and further back into the ’90s recalling the intricate, herky-jerky dynamics and start-stop riffs of bands such as Sunny Day Real Estate and At the Drive-In and heavier contemporary proggy bands such as Tool and the Mars Volta, minus the 10-minute songs.” – Akron Beacon Journal

Power of Metal.dk reviews “Camera Eye” EP

“As a preface to their soon-to-be-released debut album, Camera Eye is catchy, geometrically ambitious, and accessible to a comfortable point. Soulful at times, hard rockin’ at others; Maid Myriad has left me wanting to hear more from them. Yep, this EP is just too darn short. I hope the debut album has this same level of quality.” – PowerOfMetal.dk

Beacon Journal reviews “Camera Eye” EP

“As a preview of its upcoming debut album, With Haste on Its Breath, due out this fall on the Nefarious Industries label and mixed by Jim Wirt (Incubus, Fiona Apple), Maid Myriad has released a free, self-produced, three-song EP called Camera Eye.

The self-described “kaleidoscope rock band’s” songs written by Klemm have a heavy indie prog-rock influence of rhythmically complex bands such as the Mars Volta and Fugazi with a dash of emo-style vocals minus that genre’s clean/dirty vocal mash-up and penchant for sounding whiny and self-absorbed.

The accusatory “Camera Eye” opens the EP with dramatic arpeggiated chords leading to a stomping chorus and a cool Mars-Volta-esque middle section as Klemm’s long melody reaches into the rafters of his high tenor range:

Capturing the truth,
The Camera Eye is onto you,
All of your lies will shine through,
The Camera Eye is onto you.

The lyrically obtuse “Azure Planes” rides a nearly funky but off-metered groove. Klemm doesn’t bother with traditional guitar solos but his angular, multi-layered licks and harmonies (there are no keyboards on the EP) should induce plenty of air-guitar theatrics from listeners.

The EP closes with “Chardonnay”, an uptempo tune marked by a toe-tapping groove, some fancy jazz-inflected chord changes and another cool mid-song prog-rockin’ polyrhythmic breakdown.

Klemm and Meisenberg are clearly talented musicians, but as fans of their style of music know, a boring or average rock drummer can drag the entire enterprise down. Meisenberg does more than hold down the beat, playing like a spider-armed Animal (you know, from the Muppets), bashing the hell out of his cymbals and matching Klemm’s start-stop rhythmic twists and turns with machine-gun fills and consistently pushing groove, making him the EP’s less sung hero.” – Malcolm X Abram, Akron Beacon Journal
